Title
CHILD SAFETY STUDY
Subject
Motion - Every Los Angeles child should reach adulthood having experienced a safe, healthy and nurturing childhood which prepares him/her to become a responsible and contributing member of the community. The City of Los Angeles is home to roughly ten percent of the State's population. The children's population is that of roughly 27 percent of the total population in the City. With a little more than a quarter of the City's population composed of children, it is no surprise that their safety and well being should be a priority. While there have been specific studies dealing with child safety such as, the safety of children at pedestrian crosswalks, a report on the state of children in general in the City of Los Angeles has not been commissioned in the past. We must look at all areas of children's safety from protection against sexual predators to safe school routes to gang violence or school bullying and even their well being at the home to be able to determine how safe children really are in Los Angeles. THEREFORE MOVE that the City Council instruct the Commission for Children, Youth and their Families to conduct a study on child safety in Los Angeles. FURTHER MOVE that they report back to the Public Safety Committee with the findings of this study within 90 days.
