MEMORIAL DAY PARADE / CANOGA PARK/WEST HILLS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Motion - The Canoga Park/West Hills Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the "14th Annual Memorial Day Parade" on May 27, 2002. This is a very popular community event, and large crowds are expected to attend. Council District Three has received a request that the City provide certain services and declare this function a Special Event. Approval of this request will mean that an estimated $5,585 in fees and salary costs will be absorbed by the City. THEREFORE MOVE that the "14th Annual Memorial Day Parade," sponsored by the Canoga Park/West Hills Chamber of Commerce, be declared a Special Event; and, that all City departments be requested to waive all fees, costs, and requirements, except insurance. FURTHER MOVE that pursuant to Ordinance No. 150567 relating to temporary street closures, the following street be closed on May 27,2002, from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, subject to the supervision of the Director of the Bureau of Street Services: * Sherman Way, between Topanga Canyon Boulevard and De Soto Avenue * De Soto Avenue, between Sherman Way and Vanowen * Vanowen, between De Soto and Topanga Canyon Boulevard FURTHER MOVE that the Bureau of Street Services be directed to furnish the necessary traffic control devices. These devices will be provided with the understanding that the sponsoring organization will pick up and return them to the Bureau. FURTHER MOVE that the Department of Transportation be directed to post "Temporary No Stopping" signs and provide traffic control personnel, if necessary. FURTHER MOVE that should unforeseen circumstances change the actual date of the Special Event, the aforementioned departmental instructions continue to apply. FURTHER MOVE that pursuant to Ordinance No. 150567 relating to temporary street closures, the following street be closed on May 26, 2003, from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, subject to the supervision of the Director of the Bureau of Street Services:
* Sherman Way, between Topanga Canyon Boulevard and De Soto Avenue
* De Soto Avenue, between Sherman Way and Vanowen
* Vanowen, between De Soto and Topanga Canyon Boulevard
* Vanowen, between Owensmouth and Topanga (6:00 am to 8:00 pm)
FURTHER MOVE that the Bureau of Street Services be directed to furnish the necessary traffic control devices. These devices will be provided with the understanding that the sponsoring organization will pick up and return them to the Bureau, and remove any debris following this event.
FURTHER MOVE that the Department of Transportation be directed to post "Temporary No Stopping" signs and provide traffic control personnel, if necessary.
FURTHER MOVE that should unforeseen circumstances change the actual date of the Special Event, the aforementioned departmental instructions continue to apply.

The Parade will be held from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm, and the Festival will be held from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Another component of this event, the Equestrian Judging, will be held from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm.
Council District Three has received a request that the City provide certain services and declare this function a Special Event. Approval of this request will mean that an estimate $6,173 in fees and salary costs will be absorbed by the City.
THEREFORE MOVE that the "15th Annual Memorial Day Parade and Street Festival" be declared a Special Event, and that City departments be requested to waive all fees, costs, and requirements, except insurance.
