Subject
Motion - Our diverse City is comprised of a variety of communities and neighborhoods. In recognition of this diversity the City occasionally designates a certain geographic area with a name based upon historical significance, location and other unique characteristics. Within Council District Four, there is an area that has come to be known as "Toluca Terrace."
The Toluca Terrace designation has been in use since at least 1989, when local homeowners in the area north of Magnolia and east of Cahuenga started assembling to improve the quality of their neighborhood. They adopted the name of Toluca Terrace for their area and organized themselves under two names - the Toluca Terrace Community Action Committee and the Toluca Terrace Woods Homeowners Association.
The residents and stakeholders in this area have indicated a strong desire for an official "Toluca Terrace" designation by the City of Los Angeles. The Greater Toluca Lake Neighborhood Council on June 15, 2004 officially approved the request for the new designation.
In order to proceed with this designation, action is needed to approve it and to direct the Department of Public Works (Bureau of Engineering) and Department of Transportation to provide the necessary resources to implement the Designation for the "Toluca Terrace" neighborhood.
THEREFORE MOVE that the area bounded by Cahuenga Boulevard on the west, Magnolia Boulevard on the south, the Burbank border on the east, and Chandler Boulevard on the north be officially designated as Toluca Terrace."
FURTHER MOVE that the Department of Public Works be directed to implement the designation of Toluca Terrace."
FURTHER MOVE that the Department of Transportation be instructed to design and install signs at the appropriate locations in order to identify Toluca Terrace."
FURTHER MOVE that Department of Transportation be instructed to install signs with a blue background with white text and a City logo at the top at the locations in order to identify 'Toluca Terrace."
