Mo - North East Trees (NET) is a non profit community organization
dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of a green environment
in the Greater Los Angeles area. Recently, NET was awarded a $260,000
(260000) grant by the State of California Transportation Commission
to implement the Arroyo Seco / Los Angeles River Greenbelt Project.
This urban forestry project involves the planting of approximately
1800 California native drought tolerant trees which have been
selected to require minimal maintenance. The proposed planting area
is on public land adjacent to the LA River and the Arroyo Seco Flood
Control Channels in the communities of Cypress Park and Highland
Park. A large portion of the planting area is owned by the City of
Los Angeles and is currently vacant land. THEREFORE MOVE that the
following City departments cooperate and assist North East Trees in
obtaining the necessary permits required by the City to implement the
Arroyo Seco / Los Angeles River Greenbelt Project: Department of
Public Works and Department of Recreation and Parks. FURTHER MOVE
that each involved City department provide written progress reports
to CD 1 on the project.

This phase of the project will involve the planting of 1500 California drought tolerant trees on public land adjacent to the Arroyo Seco / Los Angeles River flood control channel. A large portion of the planting area is owned by the City & is currently vacant. The proposed project is environmentally sound & will contribute to the greening of Los Angeles. As such, it deserves the full cooperation of all City depts, including waiving all fee which may be required for this activity.
