VAN NUYS CITY HALL SEISMIC RETROFIT / KENNARD DESIGN GROUP

Motion - Kennard Design Group was contracted for the design work on the Van Nuys City Hall Seismic Retrofit. On May 3, 1999, the Council approved the Kennard Design Group Consultant Contract for three years with two one-year extensions, totaling five years. Subsequently, on May 2, 2002, the Board of Public Works approved Amendment No. 1 extending the Kennard Design Group Consultant Contract from three years to four years and three months, through February 3, 2004. The Board of Public Works authorized the City Engineer to issue a Notice to Proceed to Kennard Design Group (KDG) for the Design of the Van Nuys Municipal Building Seismic Retrofit on May 29, 2002. The construction for the Van Nuys City Hall Seismic Retrofit and Design of the Van Nuys Plaza began on June 18, 2003. The Van Nuys Plaza Design is not completed and requires additional time beyond the current term. The Van Nuys City Hall Seismic Construction and Plaza Construction will be completed by August 3, 2005, and requires design and construction support from the consultant until construction completion. On December 15, 2003, the Board of Public Works approved Request for Authority to Execute Contract Amendment No. 2 with Kennard Design Group (KDG) for As-Needed Architectural Consulting Services to extend contract time by 18 months. The 18-month extension of time from February 3, 2004 to August 3, 2005, will bring the total contract time to six years and three months to allow the consultant to complete the design of the Van Nuys Plaza and provide construction support for the Van Nuys City Hall Seismic Retrofit and Plaza. There is no change in fees to the consultant for this extension. THEREFORE MOVE that the City council, subject to the approval of the Mayor: Authorize the Board of Public Works to execute Amendment No. 2 to Contract No. 98216 with the firm of Kennard Design Group (KDG) for the Van Nuys City Hall Seismic Retrofit and Plaza.
