WESTWOOD NORTH VILLAGE / DESIGNATION

Motion - A variety of great residential communities make of up the City of Los Angeles. One such residential community, the North Village just north of Westwood, is a neighborhood bounded by the UCLA campus to the East, Gayley Avenue to the North, Veteran Avenue to the West, and Weyburn Avenue to the South. In an ongoing effort to preserve the residential character of this community and the enhancement of this distinctive neighborhood, several long-time residents and the North Village Improvement Committee (NVIC) community organization have requested that the City officially designate a specific area as "Westwood North Village." In conjunction with this effort, the NVIC has worked toward the positive improvements in the area. In order to proceed with this designation, action is needed to approve it and to direct the Department of Public Works (Bureau of Engineering) and Department of Transportation to provide the necessary resources to implement the designation of "Westwood North Village." THEREFORE MOVE that Le Conte Avenue between Gayley Avenue and Levering Avenue, Gayley Avenue between Le Conte Avenue and Veteran Avenue, and Veteran Avenue between Gayley Avenue and Weyburn Avenue be designated as "Westwood North Village." FURTHER MOVE that the Department of Public Works be directed to implement the designation of "Westwood North Village." FURTHER MOVE that the Department of Transportation be instructed to design and install signs at a sufficient height to be out-of-reach at the Southeast corner of the intersection of Veteran Avenue and Gayley Avenue, alongside the Westbound lane of Starthmore Drive at Gayley Avenue, and the Northeast corner of the intersection of Levering and Le Conte in order to identify "Westwood North Village."
